Taking care of your own website when you are busy looking after other people's is the hardest thing. The Cobbler's children have no shoes, is the phrase that always springs to mind for most freelancers (although I prefer this version, one of the earliest "But who is wurs shod, than the shoemakers wyfe, With shops full of newe shapen shoes all hir lyfe?" [1546 J. Heywood Dialogue of Proverbs i. xi. E1V]) and it is for good reason.
With a long list of things to do for other companies, your own priorities slip down the list. Now, frustratingly as it is half term next week, I find myself with some free time. Hurrah! So I decided to write about it. Perhaps, every time I remind a client that they should be writing a blog, or sending me some content or ideas to work from, I should be writing down a note in my own To Do list. It will probably slip down the list, but at least it would be there. Do you do anything to prioritise your own marketing? Are there any hints and tips out there?
