In Praise of Amazing Women

I have a confession to make.

I read my horoscope.

Every Monday an email comes through from Elle and I fall on my weekly predictions from the Astro Twins with undisguised glee.

Now, I know the science and I know how stupid this is. Actually I don’t really know the science but I do know that it is a bit daft. However I do like finding out how my career will go this week and what will happen in my relationships, especially as I seem to always be finding a new love of my life which is awesome.

So, in early January my horoscope mentioned that I would find a strong woman who would inspire me and it would be great for my career and general life. How exciting, I thought! Who could this sole mystery clever lady be?

Two months on, I am still wondering. Not because I haven’t met any strong, clever, inspiring women, but because I have met so many. And that isn’t even counting the ones I already knew before January. Basically, 2017 so far has been a non stop privilege-fest of talking to women who are making a massive difference politically, culturally, socially or in business, and every time I come away from meetings, coffee mornings or networking events I have to pinch myself to get over all the amazingness.

To be honest, I am putting myself out there to find these amazing women. Being a founder member (and Communications officer for the Reading Branch who you can find on Facebook and Twitter) of the Women’s Equality Party naturally means getting in contact with some really clever people (not just women) who are getting stuff DONE. Protesting, marching, writing, debating and educating everyone on how women should be treated equally and how council cuts, legislation or society make this so much harder to do. I am constantly in awe of what they do, and also how much they do.

Networking, too, puts me into contact with some seriously inspiring people, who are not only enthusiastic about their own businesses, but mine too, which, if you are a freelancer living by the whims of your clients, is very needed every so often.  It never seems like work when you feel like you are learning so much from others, and means you can go back to your little office with a spring in your step.

And that’s just the professional side – I have written about my friends before in plain awe of what wonderful supportive people they are, and they constantly wow me with what they have achieved, what they are up to, how they are possibly managing all the many strands of life without too many nervous breakdowns, and also how ridiculously nice they are to me.

So there you have it – horoscopes disproved YET AGAIN. I’m still going to be reading mine every week though… clicking straight through to the Virgo weekly forecast!
