I have talked a lot about marketing strategies. They are one of the services I trot out at regular intervals and they are a very nice way of getting your marketing thoughts together, especially if you’ve never integrated your marketing or thought of marketing as working towards an aim.
However, you have to be wary of marketing strategy overload. I’ve just found out a possible client, that wants a marketing strategy, already has a marketing strategy from a few months back – is it really worth going through the whole process again?
The me that likes work and getting paid says yes enthusiastically. But sometimes, if you’ve already tried a strategy and you’re having trouble following it, or you’ve got someone to write one and now you just ignore it… sometimes you might have to approach the task of getting your marketing together a different way.
Marketing is one of those strands of business that should impact on every level of your company. Why?
I am sure there are more reasons from the Marketing handbook but these are the ones to focus on right now.
I’m pretty sure that, if you’ve written a marketing strategy and it’s just (metaphorically) sat in a folder gathering (metaphorical) IT dust that you haven’t communicated it to everyone. No one knows what’s in that magical strategy, and there are no points to jump off from to create great marketing. Or even rubbish marketing.
What you may need, instead of another marketing strategy, is more communication, more encouragement, and the involvement of everyone in your business in your new marketing challenge - go for it!
