![]() One of the best parts of doing freelance work is the one-off, special projects that you get. Sometimes through existing clients, friends of friends... and sometimes just friends. My friend Mandy has written a book. Her own book! It's about the turmoils and pitfalls of a self build. I'm eagerly awaiting my copy, and judging by the small bits I've been able to get hold of, and her blogs, it's going to be an amazing, funny read. I was able to help her with her website and social media. For a self published book, this sort of approach is really important, and Mandy was (alright, still is) a bit hesitant about things like Twitter. Still, with a bit of hand-holding, and the important reassurance that you can't break it, just go with it and have fun, the book is out, the website is up and the reviews are rolling in! It's a simple website, as she has to be comfortable uploading and managing it herself. A lot of the promotion from authors, especially when they self-publish, has to come from them and their own personalities, so it's important that everything is easy to use. A gentle push to get the content up, blogs out and tweets going is vital. A lot of marketing is just common sense, just with fancy words and a bit of strategy, and that's all she needed. I love projects that I can get personally excited in (which is most of them) but this was especially lovely. Not only because Mandy provided me with food, cups of tea and a giggle, but because the book is such a great project and her writing is fantastic. This is a book that I honestly can't wait to read. BUY THE BOOK!
